Welcome to Nepalese Democratic Forum (NDF)

Nepalese Democratic Forum (NDF) is established on 2nd October 2005 with its goal of expressing the need of Democracy in Nepal, working for attaining and overseeing the humanitarian situation in Nepal, working for the upliftment of the knowledge of Nepalese in different parts of the world by creating awareness campaigns. With a noble cause of consolidating peace, democracy and solidarity among the Nepalese Community in Nepal and abroad, NDF will organize various interaction programs with Leaders from Nepal and Locals.

Nepal has been passing through the most difficult period of its history during which anarchism and terrorism prevailed throughout the country and democracy was at the stake for the direct rule of the then king Gyanendra and his despotism. Democratic norms and values were crushed and human rights were brutally violated. Hence, we Nepalese Diaspora in America strongly felt a need of the hour to build a forum through which we could raise the voice against autocracy and terrorism in order to protect democracy and human rights.

And indeed, it played a very effective and instrumental role to support the historic popular movement which, in turn, ousted the Royal government and reinstated the parliament and an interim government was formed. It was our pride and pleasure. NDF has a long way to go. It should continue its journey to strengthen democratic process and culture to enlighten and embolden the pillars of Democracy so that Nepalese people can live with peace, progress, and prosperity being free from bondage and slavery. NDF should strive endlessly to advocate in favor of democracy and human rights. In this regard, we, on behalf of NDF, strongly suggest the government of Nepal to include all the Nepalese living abroad for their rights to vote in the impending constituent assembly. It will be injustice, unfair, irrational, and illogical to deprive them of their inborn human rights. No matter where they live, it is their right to vote and have their say in the constituent assembly election which, in turn, will decide the fate and future of Nepal. The political leaders of Nepal should not forget the sacrifices, contributions and all sorts of supports they received during the second historic popular movement of Nepal from the Nepalese Community living in different parts of the world. There is no way and no point at all that they should be deprived of their voting rights during the most crucial period of Nepal at today’s date.

Growing culture of violence in Nepal! Who is to blame?

GeneralGuest writes "
Continuing with their long adopted strategy of terrorizing people and attacking free media once again maoists have intensified physical violence by kidnapping, torturing and murdering journalists, and their political opponents, who do not work in their favor. Journalist Birendra Sah and a Nepali Congress worker from Kapilvastu, Wakil Musalman, who were recently killed by the maoists are only a couple examples of their continued reign of terror. A few days back, maoists attacked and seriously injured NC leaders in Lamjung district in the disguise of YCL. Not long ago, maoists vandalised Kantipur publication causing it a severe damage. It is the continuation of series of violence and terror created by maoists in the Nepali society. While it is extremely deplorable one wonders what would happen to the press, media, and democracy if the maoists formed a government on their own?

Journalist killed by the brutal Maoist.

GeneralDinesh Sharma writes "
Dear countrymen,
"A committed journalist who was working for justice has been killed."
It is sad to learn about the death of Birendra Shah, a journalist who was brutally killed by the Maoist.
More depressing is that these are the people who want to form the Government. And to utter dismay there are people to support them.
Let us all come together to fight this brutality and tyranny.
The barrell of gun cannot supress the freedom of speech and expression.
Bullets can take our lives but not our freedom.
Today a mother lost one of her brave son. Let the soul of Birendra Shah rest in peace. We extend our profound condolences to the family members.
GOD BLESS NEPAL
Dinesh Sharma

Maoists! A part of problem or a part of solution?

Generalsubhash writes "
With their recent decision to quit government, maoists are no longer a part of the coalition government in Nepal. As far as the general feeling over their absence in the government is concerned, not many people are bothered by their exclusion. However, along with the ouster of the maoists from the government the black clouds of uncertainty hovering over Nepal's future have become even bigger and along with it arise the serious questions what does it mean to the fragile peace process? And what does it mean to the future of an ordinary Nepali?

"Election to the constituent assembly, interim government and round-table conference" had been the three most important demands put forth by the maoists while justifying their bloody war that claimed more than thirteen thousand Nepali lives. An interim government with full authority and legitimacy, looking at its broad alliance which can also be called a round-table conference, is in place. (At least it is a lot more inclusive than the round-table conference called by the maoists, which could not take place facing outright rejection from the would be participants causing maoists a bitter shame.) As far as the election to the consituent assembly is concerned, it is a well know fact that it was the maoists who proposed November 22nd as the election date. While issuing the interim constitution it was agreed upon that the first meeting of the consituent assembly election would decide over the fate of monarchy. Would not it be a gross violation of the consitution if monarchy were abolished before the constituent assembly election? With Nepali Congress CWC deciding to go for republic and all other major political parties campaigning for it, there should not be even a shred of doubt in anyone's mind that the days of monarchy in Nepal are numbered. It's not that maoists don't understand it. They just want to make an excuse not to participate in an election they can't win. Otherwise, even when the leaders of all major parties are ready for a joint commitment for republic they would not go against the polls they claim they fought so hard for. It's not very hard to understand their motive behind it

What are the maoists' options now? They don't have an option to go back to jungle (unless they are in an apparent suicidal mood.) They might make Nepal bondage for a while but they will have no place to go. Rejected and denounced from people, they won't even find a place to hide their faces. Maoists should understand in time if the terror of physical power alone could save somebody from nightmare, king Gyanendra with more than one hundred thousand strong and loyal army force would not be living like this. The earlier the maoists realize the supemacy of people's power over anything else the better for them.
